kaciandnigel2.JPGEvents set a date, a time, a place for people to get together. We learn. We laugh. We do things. We think.

For 25 years, I have managed or created dozens of events - some big, some small - inviting people, from all over the world.

My top priority is using events to inspire. Time and money spent travelling, producing and using resources should reap returns for everyone involved.  You, me and the planet.

In 2006, my focus was on developing programs and events of the Northwest Maritime Center and Wooden Boat Foundation in Port Townsend... the largest of which was the 30th Wooden Boat Festival, celebrating the spirit of crew  Read more... And the inspiring surge of Puget Sound Explorers, with Captain MB Armstrong of the Northwest Maritime Center.

In 2007, watch for developments at NWMC & WBF, along with International Women Sailing Network events. For more information on SailAway Seminars, Women Writers on the Water weekends, or to suggest a topic, go to the Contact Us link on the home page.

The Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival

341577-208209-thumbnail.jpgOn September 10, 2001, I attended the festival in my new home town.  The next day, a whole lot of things changed, and within a few months, I became the coordinator of this unique, locally and internationally significant educational and fundraising event.  In 2002, 2003 and 2004 I coordinated the event with increasing management responsibilities including a six month doubling up of roles as Interim Executive Director.  (There's more on that exciting combo on the consulting page.) In 2005, I was Festival Director, expanding the role as the organization transitioned into a merger with another maritime non-profit.  For more information on the Wooden Boat Festival, see www.woodenboat.org/festival.

SailAway Seminarssailaway1lunchonlorraine.jpg.w300h225.jpg

In February 2004, I launched a series of 3 women's sailing seminars featuring renowned instructors and offering advanced level educational opportunities to small groups of women in the region.

Seminar #1: Finding Your Boat, or Your Next One.

Seminar #2: Handling Your Boat Alone, Intended or Not.

Seminar #3: Your Engine, Your Winches, Your Friends.

A dozen women were involved and all of them now own their own boat.  One of the seminars, "Wenches on Winches" went on to be picked up by some local riggers and the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle.  I love it when the events I'm involved with foster creativity, courage and entreprenership.
