FAQ About International Women Sailing > Favorite anchorages. > Where was your favorite anchorage for all weather?
Whangaroa, New Zealand. While you may feel as if you're entering a dead-end when you pass through the rocky "Hole in the Wall" entrance, once inside this big natural harbor, you'll find you've got room to explore, options for proximity near towns or private, oyster-rich anchorages. We found plenty of room to swing in 10-30 foot depths, enough scope for an extra-tropical hurricane (10:1 scope for a 60 knot blow) and super-sticky mud to grab your chain and anchor. We moved around and anchored in this harbor in light winds, venturi-swirls and the hurricane. Not many places with this many options in both good and really bad wx!
